I don't like the people of Seattle. Last night we went down to Meany Hall to hear Sarah Vowel read. It was a good show. And then people chose the question and answer period to admonish her for using TicketMaster and to ask her to justify drinking Starbuck's coffee. These are the kind of people who wear their social conscience on their sleeves. They believe strongly, and they want you to know how much they suffer for it. They view it as a mark of their superiority and they want everyone to acknowledge it. I wanted to shout "Sarah Vowel isn't here to validate your conscience. She doesn't care about your moral crusades because she's too busy writing books."
